The Women’s Art Collection is a unique collection of art by women and can be found throughout this Cambridge College, bringing alive the 1960’s experimental architecture. The Women’s Art Collection is the second largest collection of artworks by women in the world and includes paintings, sculpture, mixed materials pieces, comic strips and more.

This Collection, accredited by Arts Council England in 2018, is of modern and contemporary art, which was founded in 1986 with the purchase of Mary Kelly’s six-part work Extase, has evolved through gifts and loans from artists and alumnae and today includes over five hundred works by artists of international quality and renown – including Barbara Hepworth, Elizabeth Frink, Paula Rego, Maggi Hambling and Judy Chicago.

The Accreditation from Arts Council England ensures that the collection and the visitor experience is maintained to a set of industry standards based on 3 principals: care of artworks, customer experience and general management of the collection.

A Unique Experience

Around each corner of the College is a new artwork or viewpoint and combined with the College’s commitment to women’s education and the beautiful, informal gardens, makes this a truly inspirational environment for any event, conference, meeting, dinnergarden celebration or summer school, day trip or overnight stay.

Many of the comfortable en suite bedrooms feature posters with images of The Women’s Art Collection. These were hand-picked based on particular favourites of the College community. The posters are also available to purchase at the Porters’ Lodge as a memento of your time here. These include “Discover the Secrets of the Universe” by Suzanne Treister and Barbara Hepworth’s “Ascending Form (Gloria)”, as shown in the pictures on the right.

The College holds a Visit England 3* Campus Accreditation and B&B is available at Murray Edwards College during vacations, with online booking and further information available via the Bed and Breakfast page.
