Christmas Party for John Farman ICU

Client Feedback

“Murray Edwards is a little gem that is hidden away and until you see it you would never know such a stunning room was there. The venue accommodated everything that we required in the one room for our Christmas party, whereas previously we have had our meal in one place and then moved on to a different area for the disco.

“I just want to say a big thank you to all of the staff who helped us have such a great evening. The service was faultless and the food delicious. Quite a few people were delayed at work and arrived late for the meal but this was handled very professionally which we really appreciated. Last but not least, the DJ couldn’t believe how great The Dome was and had a good time too!”

Background

Addenbrooke’s Hospital’s John Farman Intensive Care Unit holds an annual Christmas party for staff. In 2017, it decided to hold it for the first time at Murray Edwards College with approximately 100 staff attending.

The brief included a two or three course Christmas dinner with wine, beer and soft drinks on the table, in addition to a large dance area with disco and a pay bar.

Client Brief

Natalie Hoover who organised the event said: “The main criteria was the size of the space as the staff like to have a formal sit down meal followed by a disco. It was also important to choose a central location in Cambridge that is easy to get to from Addenbrooke’s as some staff come to the party after finishing a day shift. On-site car parking was also key.

“Murray Edwards College met all of these requirements. The Dome was a very good size and looked absolutely stunning – it definitely has the wow factor. The College is also conveniently located with very good parking.

“In the run up to the event, the Excel spreadsheets put together by the Events Team made it much easier for us collate such a large number of staff and keep track of meal options and seating plans. The Team was also patient in waiting for us to collate all our menu options which took time as we have a large team working different shifts.

“The event went really well. The staff were very helpful and efficient but also discreet. The food was served promptly and everyone received the correct meal. The conference staff were particularly flexible in changing the table set-up so we could accommodate a photo booth photographer at the last minute and also in reserving parking for the DJ and arranging for the Porters to help him to unload his equipment at the front of the College.
