Murray Edwards College offers a great experience for any visitor to Cambridge.

At Murray Edwards College we provide a consistently excellent standard of service in conferencing, dining and overnight stays, evidenced by our client feedback.

We have provided some useful information below, which will help you to have a smooth and worry-free visit to Murray Edwards.

Accommodation services

All rooms are provided with refreshments, toiletries, internet access and fresh towels. Bedrooms are serviced every day, except Sunday. In the interest of ecology, towels will be changed daily when left on the floor.

Animals

No pets other than service animals are not allowed in College.

Art collection

The College is home to the unique New Hall Art Collection, which contains nearly 350 contemporary works by women artists. Much of the art work is on display in public areas of the college, so if you’d like to take an informal tour, an information leaflet is available from the Porters’ Lodge.

Car parking

Check in/out

To check in, please go to the Porters’ Lodge, where you will be give directions to your room, a key and swipe card. Access to the college after 23.00 is by the main front entrance at the Porters’ Lodge. Please return your key to the Porters Lodge on check out. Please note that a charge will be made for keys which are not returned.

Check in: Monday to Friday – from 13:00 Noon Check out: By 09:00.
Check in: Saturday & Sunday – from 14.00 Noon Check out: By 10:00.

College bar

If it is not being used by an event, guests are welcome to relax in the bar. The bar itself is not open unless booked by an event however.

Disabled access

Murray Edwards College is fully accessible and bedrooms suitable for wheelchairs and other disabilities are available. Please download a PEEP (Personal Emergency Evacuation) form and return it to events@murrayedwards.cam.ac.uk or to your conference organiser, so we can ensure your visit is safe and happy.

Food and drink

Breakfast is available in the dining hall from 08:00 to 09:00 on weekdays and from 08:00 to 09:30 on Saturday and 09:00-10:00 on Sunday. Although we are not able to cater for lunch and dinner, there is a wide range of pubs offering good food and several excellent Indian restaurants all within a 5 -10 minute walk of the college. If you just need a snack, there is a hot drinks machine in the bar area close to the Porters’ Lodge and also snack/cold drinks machine downstairs in the College Bar.

Gardens

The College has beautiful, informal gardens for guests to enjoy, but please note that the Fellow’s Garden is reserved for use by Fellows only, unless booked for an event.

Illness

If you are ill, please contact the Porters Lodge for assistance. They can give you details of local GPs. If it is an emergency please call 999 first.

Internet

Free Wi-Fi is available in all bedrooms and public areas. A username and password will be given to you on check in at the Porters Lodge, or at registration for your conference (where requested).

Laundry

The laundry is located in the basement in Pearl House (please ask the Porters for directions). To use the machines you can purchase a card at the Porters’ Lodge or sign up to the ‘Circuit Laundy’ app. For a standard wash it is and £2.20, for a super wash it is £2.70 and for the dryers it is £1.20 per cycle.

Lost property

Items left behind will be retained at the Porters Lodge for 3 months. Please call the Porters on 01223 762100 to arrange return.

Parking

Parking is available for all our guests in our Storey’s Way is free of charge on a first come, first served basis.

The College is easy to reach by road, with good access from the M11, A14 and A428. If you’re using sat-nav, the postcode CB3 0DR/number 61 will bring you straight to the main car park on Storey’s Way.

Parking for bicycles is close to the Porters’ Lodge at the front entrance.

Security

The Porters’ Lodge is staffed 24/7. If you have an emergency, please dial 999 and then the Porters Lodge on 01223 762100. Fire instructions are included in each bedroom and meeting room on the back of the entrance door. Please ensure your room is locked at all times as the College cannot accept responsibility for the loss or damage to personal property.

A free taxi phone is located at the Porters’ Lodge.
