Case Study: Girl Guiding Anglia Inspire 24

Events

Company Background

Girlguiding Anglia holds events for girls and leaders thoughout the year but Inspire24 was a first.

It comprised a 24-hour event for the Senior Section, aged 14-25 years, to find out how science and technology can help change the world, and to hear from inspirational women who are already breaking scientific boundaries. Through a combination of hands-on experiences and interactive talks from female industry leaders, the girls were able to find out how science and technology are shaping the society of the future. Working together in teams, they entered in a race against the clock to develop and pitch their own ideas for using science and technology to make a difference in the world.

Client Brief

The organisers of the event said: “Location was very important as we are a region made up of ten counties and we like to find somewhere which is central to all our members. This was the first time we have used Murray Edwards and it fitted our criteria perfectly. “The fact that Murray Edwards allowed the girls to sleep on the floor of the Dome was a great bonus as it meant we could keep event costs down. The size of the space was perfect for the anticipated number of attendees.

“It was also inspirational as we are a ‘girls only’ organisation and Murray Edwards follows the same ethos. And the theme of the event – Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths – and encouraging girls in these fields, was a great fit for the work done at the College.”

Client Feedback

“Everything went well. The staff were very helpful, dealing with last minute changes and requests – including can we add six more people for dinner? – calmly and efficiently. They responded quickly to anything we asked. The venue spaces also worked well, allowing us to have different areas for different activities such as signing in, a shop and lunch space.”
