Mitton-Laidler Wedding

Client Feedback

Jane Mitton, the bride’s mother and wedding organiser said: “The facilities on offer definitely contributed to the success of the event. There was plenty of space and we had somewhere to go whilst The Dome layout was changed from the Wedding Breakfast for the evening celebration, including setting up for the band.

“It was a wonderful day! All the staff were attentive and helpful and the food and service were excellent, with food allergies handled sensitively and competently.

“Many of the guests enjoyed their first visit to a function at a Cambridge College. The Dome is breath-taking, airy and spacious and the availability of plenty of on-site car parking was so convenient.

“An additional bonus was the storage space next to the Porters’ Lodge which we were able to use. This made such a difference both for setting up and clearing afterwards.”

On The Day

To accommodate the special day envisaged by Alice and Joe, various rooms and spaces in College were used; guests were greeted in the Fellows’ Garden for the drinks reception with glasses of sparkling wine and a jazz band. Then it was up to the Dome Dining Hall for a 3 course wedding breakfast and following that, to the Fellows’ Drawing Room and Dining Room was used for cutting the cake and serving afternoon tea before returning to the Dome to party into the night.

Background

Alice Mitton and Joe Laidler were keen to hold their wedding celebrations at Murray Edwards College, as it is close to St Edmund’s College where the ceremony was to be held. Alice’s father is alumni and a Fellow of St Edmund’s and her Uncle and Grandfather are also Fellows. Her parents were married there 40 years ago.

From St Edmund’s College, it is just a short walk through pleasant gardens to reach Murray Edwards College, where the Dome Dining Hall suited the size of party and enabled the guests to be seated on round tables for the wedding breakfast. The Dome is also large enough to accommodate drinking, dining and dancing in the same room.

The College offered additional services prior to the day itself, including a tasting of the menu and bedrooms on the night of the wedding.
